2009

Its January 12th. 12 days into a new year. 12 days away from 2008.
I have had several conversations with friends and basically the conclusion being the same....2008 was an horrible year. I must agree, I am glad to move forward, and let 2008 go. There were some good times and good memories made in 2008, but it was a year that tried me many personal ways. Lots of people were sick, lots of people passed away, a lot of people recieved bad news, lots of people found themselves in financial trouble. I know, everyone anticipates the economy and financial situation will continue to worsen, and I'm probably one of those people, but I've decided I'm going to have a better attitude and plan better for the anticipation of the worst. As many of you know, I'm re sitting for the LSAT exam the first weekend in February. Its bittersweet, I just want it to be over, and I'm excited about getting past this obstacle in my life, but I hate it all at the same time. For example, I should be reviewing problems and preparing for it, and here I sit, procrastinating, typing a blog that probably no one will read. ha.... Anyway, I'm taking 3 classes this semester. On Monday nights I'm taking America Presidency with Dr. Crew its mainly going to focus on the presidential election of 2008, which should be interesting, I mean we lived it. Its part of history. On Wednesday nights, I'm taking Urban and Regional Planning, which I anticipated translated sounds like nails on a chalkboard, but I was wrong. I think the class is going to be fairly decent. There are two teachers who are going to team teach it. The guy works in the private sector of development and the lady works in the public sector of development. We are going to talk about the airport and public library projects and then all the things taken into consideration when an area wants to development and grow. Also going to have a better understanding of all the limitations placed on development in our area, and the reasonings behind that. It could be worse, I'll survive, and probably even enjoy it a little. My Thursday night class though is really exciting, its Religion and Crime. Primary focus on Islamic Terrorism. The teacher is a former FBI agent who used to work over in the middle east. He is really interesting, and I think I'm gonna really enjoy that class. So thats it for now, still working full time, going to school 3 nights a week this spring and until Feb 7th I'll be studying for the LSAT.

In other news in my life, two of my good friends are getting married....actually 3 of my friends are getting married, but I'm only in two of the weddings. Kelly Etherton who I went to elementary school with is getting married June 5th to her fiance' Ryan in Oklahoma. I was really hoping I would be able to make it to the wedding, but I'm just not sure if I will be able to or not. We will see how things are when time gets closer. My old roommate and longtime friend Megan got engaged a few months ago to her boyfriend, Josh, and they are getting married in April (I think). Finally, Mallory and Chuck got engaged on Christmas day. They are set to get married Dec 19 of 2009 in Valdosta, GA. I'm really excited for all of them, and I wish them the best of luck!

Well, I guess I have put off studying long enough....

Until next time....

Toys for Kids

Tonight is the Toys for Kids Christmas Ball. I'm ready and just waiting for everyone to come over. I'm thinking that I may pack my flip flops in my car for afterwards, cause I'm not sure if I'll make it all night on these shoes. I'll post pic later of shoes, but those of you who know me, will be proud.... they ARENT flip flops....they are "real" shoes. Like they dont even resemble flip flops and nothing goes inbetween my toes. ..... I know you're impressed :)

Anyway, last night Julie and I did our annual lasanga night... thats where we go out and buy a crap ton of supplies and make about ten to twelve trays of lasanga (She freezes most of them for eating later in the year). We made a big pan for the traditional New Years Eve Poker/Ping Pong party. We had a great time. I told her that when I leave for school, we will have to schedule that yearly tradition around my school break. It would really suck if she did it without me. We had a blast - I got home about 2 this morning if that is any indication of the fun time we were having.

Vegas was great - won money, and had a great time hanging out with everyone. I really miss Julianne and Juanita. I wish they still lived here. But hopefully we will all be able to go in 2009 and continue the tradition.

Last weekend I went to Valdosta, Ga to see Mallory graduate from Valdosta State University. She graduated and she is now and RN. She got a job near Waycross, Ga at a hospital. She starts in January. I know she excited about moving and starting her new job. I am so proud of her and I'm glad I got to be there and be part of the excitement.

Well, folks are starting to arrive... talk to you guys later!

Thanksgiving....is a word of action

"Be thankful for each new challenge, because it will build your strength and character." - Author Unknown

Thanksgiving has come and gone. I had a great meal, and a good time with my family and some of our friends. It was myself, Mom, Dad and then my parent's neighbors for lunch. I had a great time hanging out with my parents. :) Here is a picture of all the wonderful food we had! I guess I need to suck it up and learn how to cook all the holiday essentials, otherwise, one day, a day far far far away from now, I'll be trying to figure it out, and I'll be screwed. Anyone who knows me, knows I dont cook... I didn't get those good cooking genes... Which I'm not sure how, because both my parents are awesome in the kitchen.

Whenever Thanksgiving comes around, everyone always talks about things that they are thankful for. 2007 has been a rough year in a lot of difference ways. My family went through a lot at the beginning of the year, losing my Granny in January. This was our first year without her. I was really worried about Mom, but she stayed pretty busy cooking and enjoying everyone's company. We played cards after we ate lunch, and I could feel my Granny there. Granny loved to play card games. She was one of the most competitive card playing cheaters I have ever met! :) She loved to have fun and always had everyone laughing with her cheating antics. I know she is in a better place, and watches over us everyday, but we can't help but miss those we love.

Sometimes it is hard to articulate all the many things we are thankful for - cause there are soo many!! I'm thankful for my family (even though they drive me crazy sometimes), I'm thankful for great friends, and I'm thankful for the opportunities that I have had over the years. That probably seems like a pretty generic answer, but its a genuine one. I am very lucky to be surrounded by such good people. I'm thankful I have such strong good parents. They taught me alot to make me into who I am and should get alot of the credit for molding me into that person....even the not so good characteristics :)

Friday was Black Friday... I had a great time this year. Michelle and I always get together on Thanksgiving night and go through all the sale papers and work out our plan of attack :) This year, we started our day at 3:30 a.m. at Starbucks, followed by Kohls, Walmart, Target, Toys R Us, Bed Bath Beyond, Panama City Mall, and various stores at Pier Park. We started at 3:30, and were at it hard until about 9:30. I finally got to bed around 11:00 p.m. We got some fantastic deals and saved alot of money! I think Michelle got her family almost taken care of! I was so excited, I got a 4 gig memory card for my camera for $10.00!!! What a great deal! I also finished up my Vegas shopping. We leave for Vegas on December 4th (this upcoming Thursday) I am soooo excited! We are gonna have lots of fun! This is our second year going together, we are staying at Treasure Island. When I say we...We consists of: myself, Bob and Julie, James and Kim, Greg, Pam, and we are meeting some friends that live out of town, Julianne and Juanita. I am so excited to see those two! Its been almost a year since we have seen Juanita, and gosh, I can't remember how long, I guess like 3 years since I have seen Julianne!

Well, I'm still pretty tired from shopping and being up for about 20 straight hours yesterday, so I'm gonna go lay down and try to get some rest.

I hope everyone else had a great thanksgiving!

Welcome!

Thanks for visiting my blog. I decided to start this and get myself in the habit of getting on and writing for when I go off hopefully to Italy and then to Law School (wherever that may be) and still be able to stay in touch with everyone! I've seen a few friends who have some blogs, and I found them to be a very neat way of staying in touch with friends and what not!
Thanksgiving is Thursday. Its just me, Mom and Dad this year I guess. We typically celebrate the holidays BIG. Always lots of food, lots of family and lots a people, not to mention lots of FUN. This will be the first Thanksgiving that it may not be that way. We will see how it all pans out, I'll will let you know. I have plans to go Black Friday shopping with Michelle. That always is a fun exciting time. Maybe I'll find some awesome deals for some Christmas presents for the few people who are getting some this year. :)

Anyway, I'm still familiarizing myself with everything, but stay tuned! Its late, and I have to get up early in the morning. Good night, and Talk to you soon!
